SOME HISTORY

10 Cents a Meal began as a pilot program of the state of Michigan in 2016 and became an official, statewide program in 2020. Since then, the program has received consistent investment from the state ranging between $2 million in 2020 to the latest $9.3 million for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 program years. This investment in Michigan’s children and local food systems shows the Michigan Legislature’s commitment to providing healthy, Michigan-grown food for the children of Michigan and supporting Michigan’s farmers, producers, and related food businesses.
